The Tour Lab is a Canberra-based live production development initiative designed to help both emerging and established artists build more professional, scalable and tour-ready live shows. Perfect for any artist looking to transition to the next level, whether that’s from loungeroom rehearsals to small venues or small venues to support slots in larger rooms, or maybe into their own headline tour.

The program aims to open doors to touring infrastructure suppliers, knowledge and support as well as expose artists to the realities of modern touring by giving them hands-on access to industry-standard touring technology, workflows, common mistakes and production contacts.

Through guided experimentation, participating artists will have the opportunity to refine every aspect of their live presentation including audio, playback systems, in-ear monitoring, lighting, visuals and show control in a safe environment where mistakes and experimentation are encouraged. They will be guided and supported by an experienced AV technician who will help them reach their audio visual goals. 

Rather than focusing purely on education, Tour Lab is designed as a practical development environment where artists can test ideas, trial production setups, solve technical challenges and develop touring workflows that are reliable, repeatable and suited to real-world Australian venues.

The program aims to strengthen Canberra’s live music ecosystem by increasing the touring readiness, professionalism and confidence of local acts seeking to perform beyond the local market and strengthen the pool of local support artists for touring headliners.
